For me slim pickings for really good new music recently.
Just got home and a mailer is waiting for me from the Vinyl Factory;
Groundbreaking contemporary composer Anna Meredith’s debut release combines classical motifs with experimental electronic backing, placing her in a similar vein to the likes of James Blake and These New Puritans, both of whom she’s supported on tour.
This 4-track EP, pressed on 180-gram vinyl and limited to only 300 copies worldwide, opens with the throbbing horn fanfare of ‘Nautilus’, and goes on to explore lush psychedelia and slow build, downtempo electronica across 18 minutes of inspired soundscapes.
Meredith’s groundbreaking contemporary composition in the classical music sphere prompted the Daily Telegraph to call her “one of Britain’s leading young composers,” but she has been working increasingly in the electronic arena too.
In the last year or so, Meredith has been writing and recording the songs that would become Black Prince Fury, road testing the new tracks at a handful of live shows with the likes of James Blake, These New Puritans and Mira Calix.
Black Prince Fury tracklist
1. Nautilus 2. Rhodedendron 3. Never Wonder 4. Orca
An genuinely amazing piece of music (in my humble opinion).
Whopping BIG hypnotic sounds.
Right up my alley.
Took a punt - immediately pre-ordered it.

Hope the rest of the E.P is as good as this track.
Give it a go.

A Winged Victory for the Sullen. Bought it last week. Beautiful.
