March 2013.
'Bioshock - Infinite' A true classic.
Easily one of the best video games I have ever played. End of the xbox lifespan and what a way to bow out.
The Eels - Live in Birmingham.
Thanks to Tim for making this happen.
Great night night from start to finish although £4.80 for a pint was a real pinch.
'The Master' Blu Ray.
Wonderful.
Slow burner.
Joaquin Phoenix on top form.
Loved it.
John Grant - 'Pale Green Ghosts'.
A Pithy, witty, sublime album.
Looking forward to hearing this fine singer in May.
Midori Traveller brass clips and stationary.
The return of Crumplyporkpie (sic) & Nesti.
Welcome back gentlemen.
'Treme' - Series 3. Some amazing music and acting. Reminds me of good times in New Orleans.
(Not keen on grits though).
Papier mache savings pigs discovered…
Apple pie and coffee with Mr Dev.
'Phoenix Night' series 1 and 2.
"What do you mean they are not coming?" "Well you know they said they were coming - well now they're not".
Postal Co notebooks.
'Morven Callar' DVD.
'Sightseers' Blu Ray.
Twisted hilarity. Lures you in, makes you laugh and grimace in equal measures.
Zeiss 24mm T*.
B & M bargains. I am a newly converted fan to the budget shop. £1.49 for Dorset cereal? I'm there.
Bioshock Infinite. One of the most overblown games I have ever played. To think this is all the 360 is capable at the end of its life. Shame on the developers for their lack of maturity and failure to progress games beyond anything other than point at the object and shoot it to make it go away. When will they stop pandering to teenage fantasies and make something of worth. Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Fez, Flower, Journey, you all lead the way and show how the medium can be harnessed and used to create something mature, otherwordly, beautiful, intelligent, artistic and with depth of imagination.
ReplyDeleteAl ;)
A well written critique but one that i cannot agree with. I am a casual gamer. I don't intellectualise about it all. I absolutely loved the game. The story line, rich colours, depth, humour and gameplay had me entertained and gripped throughout. "Shame on the developers"? They created a world which I am going back to again and again. I don't know how much work they have to put into a game like this but "shame" Al? Really?
ReplyDeleteI play video games to take me away from a stressful day to day job. I want to forget about the outside nonsense and just be entertained and distracted. I want to shoot things. I want to be amazed at art work, 3D worlds, witty dialogue, bizarre machinery and beautiful music.
Bioshock gave me this by the bucket load.
One of my top 5 games of all time.
Superb.
Vive la difference Al.
