Swap.

'Classic' swap series review.

(Sorry for delay)

May - Tim gave me :

'About a Boy' OST by Badly drawn Boy.

I like beanie hats and have several that I like to don on a crispy day.
I don't however have the ability to write a good pop tune.
Luckily this chap does.

This was given to me by Tim for the classic swap series.
It has been listened to regularly and enjoyed regularly.
Takes a while to 'bed in' but soon as the songs get more familiar they blossom.
It fascinates me how the creative types amongst you can take a thing and make a combination of even better things out of it.
BDB started with a guitar back in the early days and, with this album, uses strings, horns, lap steel and an orchestra. What a life..sigh…

Some of my all time favourite music comes from film (NOT movie) soundtracks.
I approached this album without remembering the film from whence it came. Didn't seem to matter - the music stood up and gave a good account for itself.

Some sublime 'staring wistfully out of crow's nest window' moments and some equally perky toe tapping morsels as well. Really enjoyed the bubbling organs and chunky rhythms. Unlike some soundtrack albums this doesn't seem to run out of steam. You know the type - the composer takes one theme and just runs with it throughout. This has a thread running through it but the tunes work individually. I do secretly wonder if it was done for the film or did he have them already hidden away for such a job…?

Pia likes it. "Very Charlie Brown' was her considered response.

Joint favourite track - "File Me Away".

7.7 out of 10.

Good work Tim.
