Ware.

I stumbled upon the work of Chris Ware a little while back now.

I won't babble on but he comes highly recommended.

He specialises in incredibly (and I honestly don't use that word lightly)  detailed graphic novels, comics, books, prints and other artwork.

It is dense, complex and often bleak stuff.
Took me ages to click into how to actually read it - the layout of each page can be a little erratic & challenging. Worth sticking with though.

There is just so much time and love gone into every picture and word put on the page.
Wonderfully precise and colourful.

I often pick up the Acme Novelty library and find a whole new written segment or cartoon that I hadn't spotted before.
I absolutely love it.

I just received his new 'publication'…book….towering monolith?

'Building Stories'

Was expecting and indeed hoping for a book similar to his last (The Smartest Kid On Earth)

Had no idea…

Postman handed in to me with a clear sheen of perspiration on his forehead.

Turns out it is a selection of hardback books magazines, pamphlets, comic strips, and the like in a huge box.
Some of the books have gold leaf spines, others come in broad sheet newspaper format.
There is even a large four panel, hard backed fold out of  the building.

Amazing.
Especially given the price.
Cost under 20 bones.

This must have taken years to compile, edit and finish.

Probably is going to take me a year to get through it.
I'm going to savour every page.

Now all I need is the completed works of Rusty Brown.

I can wait Mr Ware, I can wait…
