An evening with Rufus Wainwright.
Arrived in good time.
We always do our level best to get to a venue early. Good manners.
Plan your time accordingly.
Nothing worse (well maybe not true) than arriving late, in the dark, and having to push past people to get to your seats…'scuse me,,,ta…sorry….
Wonderful venue.
Saw David Byrne here a little while back.
Comfortable seatage with a great view.
Initially disappointed to read of two supporting acts. Bring on Rufus we thought.
What a very pleasant surprise.
Krsytle Warren - one of the backing singers and what a voice.
Very enjoyable.
Neat, crispy & deep sound throughout the venue.
Is it worth posting up a shaky grainy youtube clip taken by someone in the front row?
No.
Definitely not.
Incidentally one chap in the row in front of me tried to get his mobile phone out and was promptly poked by another fellow behind him indicating that this was frowned upon.
Sulky face and phone-away.
Brilliant!
Added another layer of enjoyment to my camera-phone less evening with no shiny screen irritating my valuable peripheral vision.
Thank you anonymous fellow; I will never forget you.
Next up. Adam Cohen. Yep; Leonard's son.
Again very good indeed.
Chocolatey truffle voice with some good songs.
(I think Pia has developed a teensy crush on him)
All in all a vey good warm up.
Refreshing double gin and tonic during the interval. Some very well dressed people around.
Very on-point colour coordination and comfortable shoes as should be expected.
Ensemble:
Pia: D & G dress. Camper shoes. Oris automatic. (She's beautiful & snazzy my broad is)
For me: Boss slacks. Folk shirt. Albam blazer. Yuketen moccs. Panerai 111. M & S crackers. UW socks. Strong, strong look.
On comes Rufus.
Rupert bear meets a colour blind golfer on L.S.D whilst sipping Camparis.
(plus glittery loafers)
Fabulous.
Brilliant voice.
Great song choices.
My only issue being no "poses" (one my favourites).
Witty chat between songs.
Flowed really well. Rufus and his band are the epitome of professionalism.
He shared some of the evening with Teddy Thompson who was playing in his band.
Where have I been?
Shivers down the spine moment - Solo 'Saratoga Summer Song".
Truly wonderful.
Have a google for it.
Seems like the new generation has been here for a while and I've been sleeping.

The encore consisted of a 3/4 naked man wearing angel wings shouting at the crowd to get up and dance if they wanted 'Rufus Apollo" to come back on.
Dancing began.
Boing!
On came our hero, sliding seductively from the back of the hall, dressed in a toga and a blond flowing wig.
The band came on dressed up as Bootsy Collins wannabes and funked it up.
Rufus got the entire first 2 rows up on stage and bounced around with Freddy Mercury stylings.
Fast songs & then slow songs with wavy arms and then goodnight.
Gasp.
Quite a flamboyant and wholly unnecessary routine but most enjoyable.
I am getting old.
I won't lie about my age.
I make gently achey, sigh-ey sounds when I sit down and indeed get up from comfy chairs.
I don't want to be challenged by rock and roll anymore.
I am part of my establishment.
Took me a while to push my way in.
Now I am here I want to be entertained.
Tonight I was.
Thank you Mr Wainwright and the band.
"Poses" next time please.
